About Me

They say every great cook has a story – mine begins in a quiet kitchen, with the soft hum of a kettle and the smell of cinnamon bread baking.

My name is Emma. I’m 65 years old, and my love for cooking was born not out of luxury, but out of loss – and love.

I lost both of my parents when I was just six years old. Life could have gone many ways after that. But I was blessed to be raised by the kindest, wisest woman I’ve ever known – my Grandma Ruth.

She didn’t have much. No fancy appliances, no cookbook collections, not even a television. But she had a wooden spoon, a cast iron skillet, and a heart full of recipes passed down from generations. And she shared them all with me – every single one, step by step, just like her mother did with her.

We spent our days in that little kitchen, peeling apples, kneading dough, making soups that cured broken hearts and cookies that healed old wounds. Cooking wasn’t just a skill in our home – it was love made visible. It was how we remembered, how we celebrated, and how we survived.

Emma and Grandma Ruth

When I grew up and started a family of my own, I carried those recipes – and her spirit – with me. Now that I’m older, I’ve realized it’s time to pass them on. Not just to my children and grandchildren, but to anyone who’s ever felt a little lost in the kitchen… or in life.

That’s what this space, HowToCookWithGrandma.com, is truly about.

It’s not just about food. It’s about comfort. It’s about resilience. It’s about finding joy in the little things – a bubbling stew, a golden crust, the scent of vanilla on your fingers.

So, welcome to my kitchen.
I’ll teach you what Grandma Ruth taught me:
How to cook with patience, with heart, and always with love.
